Need 3D Models for your ECAD & MCAD Analysis? Create them yourself with CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite

We all like the job to be done for us. But the reality is that you’re nearly always stuck with just a few 3D models left to populate your board model, and they are nowhere to be found on the internet. Rather than accepting the less than accurate 2.5D extrusion for your chassis and collision analysis, you can use CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite to generate accurate models in minutes.

How it works

Simply select your part type and package type, such as an IC with BGA package. The Model Builder will present a list of default models to start with, sorted by number of pins on the device. Select your model, and use it as-is or customize the parameters to fit your specific component. This model will overlay itself directly onto the origin of the 2D part on the board.

Why it’s cool

Board Modeler LiteIt sounds so easy. But with other systems, you’re forced to only use what you canfind on the internet, and often times you’re left with a mess trying to align the 2D footprint to its 3D model. Then, you end up right where you started, relying on the MCAD team to maintain alignment. When all you’re trying to do is ensure that your board fits MCAD requirements, this becomes a major time waster instead of the time saver it is intended tools to be.

And Another Thing

If you’re wondering what’s so great about CADSTAR Board Modeler Lite on its own, it offers a much needed bridge between the MCAD and ECAD design flow. It allows designers to model the board inside the designed MCAD chassis and identify areas where components collide with each other or the chassis. Being able to identify and model these issues allows MCAD and ECAD to work more closely to provide solutions. Visit our Board Modeler Lite webpage for more information.
