Formula Student Team Cut Cable Weight by 50% Using E3.series Electrical CAD Software

The 2011 race car from the Esslingen University Formula Student team was recently unveiled. It is the first car from the team that weighs less than 200kg. Through their use of our E³.series software for the electrical design of the car the team were able to reduce cable weight by 50% compared to their 2010 car.

Using the E³.series module E³.formboard for the creation of the documentation required for manufacturing, the electrical engineering students were also able to accurately determine cable lengths and their destination.

Best in class documentation

Automatic documentation to generate Bills of Materials and output cost calculations, which the students are required to provide for a theoretical 1,000 vehicles, is better than they imagined. The team expect to be able to wow the judges in the upcoming competitions in this area alone.
