Zuken Innovation World 2018 Americas

A Record-setting Zuken Innovation World Americas

Zuken Innovation WorldZuken Innovation World Americas 2018 took place recently in San Diego and was record-setting!  This was by far the largest ZIW event held in the Americas based on registrations, partners and international visitor attendance. Customer participation also set a record with over 25% of the sessions being delivered by customers. But, breaking records is only part of the story.

Some of you may be wondering Zuken Innovation World is all about. ZIW is based on three pillars – innovation, education and networking. Each of these foundational elements play out during ZIW in the form of awards, classes and activities. For instance, the event opens and closes with a reception and dinner to bring all the attendees together for networking. With more than 40 technical classes, the educational element is clear. Innovation is recognized throughout the event, and the highlight is the presentation of Zuken’s annual Innovation Award. These three pillars set the stage for a friendly, educational and fun event.

ZIW opened with a Welcome Reception on Coronado Island overlooking the harbor and downtown San Diego. The weather was perfect and the reception had a vibe that set the stage for the coming days – energetic, friendly and smiles all around. What a great start!

The General Session included a welcome message and some insights about the Americas business from Zuken USA’s CEO, Kent McLeroth. Zuken’s CTO, Kazuhiro Kariya, was up next to deliver Zuken’s vision and roadmap covering key topics of interest to our customers and partners. We extend a special thank you to No Magic’s CTO, Enrique Krajmalnik, for delivering an educational and thought-provoking keynote called Model Based Systems Engineering: Past, Present and Future. The MBSE topic is going viral in the electronics industry and hearing from a subject matter expert was very interesting. Enrique spoke to the growing popularity of MBSE methodology and what’s next.

The General Session ended with the presentation of Zuken’s annual Innovation Award given to Northrop Grumman for exceptional innovation in the area of design process. Thanks to Northrop Grumman for joining us at ZIW to accept the award and for saying a few words about their company.

This year we introduced a new session called Zuken-360. Zuken USA has been working at being better listeners and communicators; a recent customer survey and now Zuken-360 is part of that initiative. Zuken-360 is a face-to-face conversation between our customers and the Americas leadership team. I had the privilege of being the event emcee. What a great session!  The conversation was open and friendly with customers and partners asking questions of the management team and me asking questions of the audience. We heard firsthand what was on the mind of our customers and what they wanted to see from Zuken and our team had some good takeaways from the event. Thanks to all of those who joined the conversation in the Zuken-360 event.

The Technology Showcase highlighted our partners, Expert Bars and a cool virtual reality demo station. Based on the loud buzz in the room, I think this combination was a winner. This dedicated block of time is an opportunity to meet our partners and learn how their solutions can enhance Zuken’s solutions, talk to our product experts and enjoy some refreshments. Thanks to all of our exhibitors who made this a success. The VR station had a long line waiting to give it a try. Using E3.series Harness Analyzer, you could sit and move inside a car while viewing the harnesses. Then select a harness and view the details about the harness. Based on the reactions, everyone really enjoyed it.

The Conference Dinner is the closing event and yes, another networking activity. This year the pool terrace offered the perfect venue for an enjoyable, relaxing and entertaining event. The Tequila Bar (remember, last year was a Moonshine bar) was a hit along with some great music and dancing. Zuken USA wants to thank everyone for making this a really special event. We look forward to seeing everyone next year in Hilton Head!
